The first inhabitants of the region were Celtic people then, after some time along about 7th - 8th century the Slavonic abide at these areas. The first reliable mention of the town Chrudim relates to year 1055. The significant period occurs approximately several years ago 1276, when the king’s town Chrudim was founded by King Přemysl Otakar II. The life of local inhabitants was complicated very often by epidemics, the famines, fires and the floods. The town burned up in the 13th century shortly after its foundation. The great damage also brought about the “thirty years’ “war (1618 – 1648). The railway was established in the year 1871. Cultural self-realization: Guests can take a look on the Council House (1780) with a baroque decoration, standing on the square. The dominant of Chrudim is the church of Ascension Our Lady. The Pestilential Pillar is the most considerable baroque monument with fountain (1727 – 1734). Next memory, there is the “Soap maker’s house” (1573 – 1577), the exquisite renaissance building with gallery. There is a museum of marionette play there.
